Elementary (6-12 years)

Our program provides a mixed age environment for students ages 6- 12. Elementary children are driven to understand social rules and they have strong sense of justice. At this age, they are developing their moral code, learning to think more abstractly, and mastering more complex social skills. The mixed age environment allows children to learn from each other, support each other, and develop leadership skills.

Elementary children are driven by the question, “Why?” They want to understand the world around them, and are developing their own personalities and ways of thinking. Our lessons are rooted in what Maria Montessori called the Cosmic Curriculum, which introduces new concepts to children using rich storytelling, art, experiments, and hands-on materials. The curriculum integrates all areas of study, often incorporating a wide range of disciplines into a single lesson.

Important skill development during this stage includes:

  • Internalizing values and morals

  • Learning to collaborate with others

  • Experimenting and researching their own interests

  • Understanding basic laws and characteristics of the physical world

  • Engaging with peers

  • Managing time, balancing work and play

  • Prioritizing tasks

  • Solving problems independently

  • Gaining appreciation for history, and those who have come before us

  • Understanding friendship

  • Making decisions

  • Thinking abstractly

  • Learning rules and expectations of society
